Uganda's population is made up of a complex and diverse range of tribes.

Life expectancy: Men 44 yrs., Women 47 yrs.

Much of Uganda has a tropical climate which is tempered by an average altitude of 3280 ft. The hottest months are from December to February, with temperatures up to about 84°F.

Uganda is a beautiful country, once refered to by Winston Churchill as "The Pearl of Africa." Unfortunately, Uganda has suffered many tragedies since its independence in 1962. In parts of the country, rebel violence against civilians is very serious. Frequent coverage of omnipresent political corruption and military tyranny along with the heavy burden of the AIDS crisis have left Uganda with a reputation as an extremely unstable country.

However, Uganda has one of the fastest growing economies in Africa and is trying very hard to get back on her feet. Gorilla tracking is a popular tourist attraction. Uganda has the highest number of bird species (over 1,000) on the African continent, and the tourism industry is utilizing this fact to help build Uganda into a destination for birders.
